Upcoming Events at OCC’s Center for Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Education

TOMS RIVER, N.J.(January 13, 2026) —The Center for Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Education at Ocean County College will present several upcoming events in keeping with the center’s mission to offer educational programs which foster awareness of the Holocaust, genocides, and other crimes against humanity, and to advance ongoing dialogue about the consequences of bigotry and intolerance.

All events will take place on OCC’s main campus in Toms River, in the Technology Building Lecture Hall (Bldg. #25, Rm. 115). These events are free and open to the public.

Code of Honor: Albanian Muslims Who Saved Jews During the Holocaust   Thursday, January 29  •  9:30-11:45 a.m.
Discover an uplifting and little-known piece of Holocaust history that reminds us that each of us – individually and collectively – can make a difference. During the Nazi occupation, and guided by a cultural code of honor grounded in responsibility, compassion, and courage, the Muslim Albanians saved every Jewish person –native and refugee –in their country.

Strange Bedfellows: Corporate America’s Strategic Collaboration with the Third Reich
Wednesday, February 11  •  11 a.m.-12:15 p.m. 
This lecture explores how international and American companies such as Ford Motor Company, IBM, and Chase Manhattan Bank prioritized profit margins over human life by maintaining business relationships with the genocidal Nazi regime’s war efforts and the Holocaust through forced labor, financing operations, and providing essential technology and materials. 

Cultivating a National Culture of Hate
Thursday, March 12  •  9:30-10:45 a.m.
This informative presentation focuses on how the Third Reich used propaganda to deceive and indoctrinate Germans via a variety of media, including radio, print, and popular culture (music, theatre, film).

The Sins of the Father
Monday, March 23 • 9:30-10:45 a.m.
Viewing and discussion of a powerful documentary exploring the question of responsibility for the actions of one’s parents. Teenager Monika Goeth Hertwig discovered that her father, Amon Goeth, was the Nazi commandant of Plaszow concentration camp, and responsible for thousands of horrific murders. As an adult, Monika reaches out to and meets with a Jewish American woman who was a victim of  Goeth to understand and rationalize her father’s actions.
