Adult Transition Program

The Adult Transition Center (ATC) at Ocean County College entered into partnership with the New Jersey Department of Education Office of the Secretary of Higher Education funded through the “County College-Based Center for Adult Transition Grant”.

Mission

The Adult Transition Center will provide a supportive and inclusive environment offering educational and vocational training to individuals ages 18-24 with Intellectual Disability (ID) and Developmental Disability (DD) residing in Ocean County.  Our program will assist participants in identifying individualized and purposeful goals while providing skills-based training and education in the areas of workplace readiness, obtaining and maintaining meaningful employment, financial literacy, resume writing, interview skills, job sampling, self-advocacy, social skills, communication skills and career education.  Our goal is to set our students up for success by providing them with the knowledge and skills to navigate a successful transition into adulthood.

The Adult Transition Center provides services to individuals 18 to 24 years of age with a documented intellectual or development disability.  The individual should be able to participate in the program utilizing appropriate social, emotional, and behavioral skills. An individual can be referred with a diploma (18-24) or without a diploma (21-24) and is motivated to obtain personal, post-secondary education or training, and employment goals.  A certified or licensed professional who has comprehensive training and direct experience in the diagnosis such as ahigh school faculty/staff member (counselor, LDT-C, social worker, psychologist, special education teacher); or a licensed professional (psychiatrist, audiologist, pediatrician, ophthalmologist, neuropsychologist, medical doctor, social worker, clinical psychologist, learning disability specialist, vocational rehabilitation counselor).  A community agency with a federal IDD/DDD verification letter can also refer an individual.  It is not appropriate for professionals to evaluate members of their family or others with whom they have personal or business relationships.
