It is the foundation for all business decision making. Studying accounting instills an understanding of ethics, transparency, and accountability — values that matter deeply to investors, regulators, and the public.

Accounting is a broad area of study with many underlying components for specialization. As an accounting student, you will be exposed to a large variety of skills and competencies as outlined below:​

  • Prepare and analyze core financial statements following GAAP standards
  • Use internal data for business budgeting, cost analysis, and decision-making
  • Apply auditing principles to examine records and assess internal controls
  • Navigate federal and state tax rules for individual and corporate compliance
  • Manage accounting information systems and software to protect data integrity
  • Evaluate company health using financial forecasting and ratio analysis
