Ocean County College offers two distinct pathways for English language learners. Whether you are looking for practical skills for daily life or preparing for a college degree, we have a program designed for your success.
Academic ESL
(College Credit)
Best for: Students who want to earn a college degree or a professional certificate.
- Tuition-based, but scholarships and grants are available.
- Strengthening reading, writing, grammar, listening, and speaking from foundational to college-level.
- Four-credit courses taught by experienced OCC faculty
- Evening classes, held twice a week with in-person support
- Students at Level 4 can begin taking approved 100-level college courses while finishing their ESL studies.
- Students receive an OCC English Language Certificate after completing Level 4.

Community & Career ESL (Non-Credit)
Best for: Improving English for work, family support, and navigating daily tasks.
- Practical English for career advancement, helping children with school, and daily tasks such as banking or medical visits.
- Sessions last 10 weeks, meeting twice per week for 3 hours per class.
- Uses Burlington English for guided practice and online homework.
- Includes training in Financial, Digital, and Family Literacy.
- Integrated Education and Training (IET) courses are available in Administrative Office Support Specialist and Medical Management Specialist.
