OCC English Education majors develop a strong foundation in literature, writing, and rhetorical analysis while mastering the skills necessary for guiding their future students to success. You will learn how to analyze complex texts, lead engaging classroom discussions, and design lessons that help students develop confidence in their voices. This program prepares you to transfer to a four-year program and continue toward certification.​

What You Will Learn

English Education majors typically pursue careers as K–12 English or language arts teachers, helping students develop reading, writing, and communication skills, with many also moving into curriculum development or instructional coaching. Some graduates continue to teach at the postsecondary level or pursue advanced degrees in education, literature, or related fields to expand their career opportunities.​
