An AS degree in Information Technology prepares you with practical skills to install, manage, and support computer systems, networks, and technology used by organizations every day. It provides a pathway to transfer to a four-year program or begin in-demand careers in IT support, networking, and systems administration. 

What You Will Learn

In an Associate’s degree in Information Technology, you will learn how to install, configure, and troubleshoot computer hardware, software, and networks. You will gain hands-on skills in operating systems, networking, cybersecurity basics, and technical support, preparing you for transfer or entry-level roles in the IT field.

Core skills and competencies include:

  • Knowledge of operating systems, multithreading, processes, shared memory, input/Output. 
  • Proficiency in SQL, database design, and analyzing data 
  • Problem-solving and analytical thinking 
  • System design and system development life cycle 
  • Knowledge of network security, ethical hacking, and risk management.

  • Programming and shell scripting

Information Technology majors typically pursue careers in network administration, systems analysis, IT support, database management, and cybersecurity, working as network administrators, systems analysts, IT specialists, or database administrators. Graduates find opportunities across virtually all industries, with many advancing through professional certifications or further education to take on specialized technical or leadership roles in IT.​

At A Glance

The Information Technology Concentration offers three tracks to accommodate students at different levels of preparation. Choose the track that best reflects your current skills and academic goals.

Algebra Track: For students who need to build foundational math skills before advancing to higher-level IT and computing coursework. This track provides the mathematical groundwork necessary to progress toward advanced systems administration and technical problem-solving.

Precalculus Track: Designed for students with a solid algebra background who are preparing to move into higher-level analytical coursework. This track bridges foundational math and the technical coursework required for information technology transfer programs and networking systems.

Calculus Track: Ideal for students who are ready to begin calculus immediately. This track is the most direct pathway toward transfer to a four-year information technology or computer science program and is recommended for students with strong math preparation.
