A Word From the Editor:
Seascape… an apt name for a literary magazine comprised of the contributions of a vast
array of students, alumni and faculty here at Ocean County College. Since people are often
referred to as fish in a sea, it is no surprise that the ecological meaning of Seascape refers
to the interconnectedness of marine ecosystems. Our magazine is such a system; a network
of people that exchange perspectives and experience through their lens, in a variety of
frameworks based on personal, cultural, intellectual and academic fields of understanding
that helps us connect a little more. This is the ideal. We are proud to say that Ocean County
College has many ecosystems working in tandem, coexisting gracefully.
Through the courageous and generous gifts from artists and academics who now or once
before traversed our campus floor, we are able to present our unique ecosystems of thought,
passion, feeling and intellect through the diversity and universality of each individual. It is
through this lens that I’d like to present this year’s publication. We may all be at different places
and stages in our singular lives but there’s a commonality in our humanity, which we most
often find in kindness, heartbreak and art. While all of the aforementioned are contained
within each work published, it is the art that we present to you in this year’s Seascape.
