
Hitler believed that the role of artists was to support Nazi ideals and “glorify the racial structure of the German people” using classical traditions. He condemned modern artistic styles as “degenerate” and the products of “sick minds.” Entartete Kunst was also the title of a 1937 propaganda exhibit in Berlin that juxtaposed modern art seized from museums with works that aligned with Nazi aesthetic sensibilities.
