Join Ocean County College as we launch our 60th anniversary celebration on Wednesday, March 27, marking the beginning of several months of “groovy” festivities commemorating our founding in 1964! The college will officially kick off the celebration at the baseball home game when the Vikings face their conference rivals, Brookdale Community College’s Jersey Blues, on the baseball field on the Toms River campus.
“The Athletics department is happy to host the kickoff of OCC’s 60th anniversary celebration,” said Ilene Cohen, executive director of Athletics. “We are excited to be a big part of what is going to be a great day.”
OCC President Pamela Monaco and OCC Foundation Executive Director Ken Malagiere will be on hand to throw out the ceremonial first pitch, and there will be food, games, trivia, and guaranteed fun for the whole community to enjoy.
“I am so excited to demonstrate my total lack of athletic prowess—and I am serious about this,” said Dr. Monaco. “The athletes, the coaches, and the athletic department have been wonderfully supportive of me since becoming president. Every time I go to a game or talk with a student athlete, I am awed by their dedication to a team, to learning, and to competition. It is a tremendous honor to be involved with our baseball team.”
“The OCC Foundation is always at the ready to support our students, athletics and our entire OCC community,” added Malagiere. “We appreciate the opportunity to participate in the day’s festivities! Let’s go, Vikings!”
Activities begin at 12:30 p.m. and game time is 2 p.m. The event is free and open to the public; parking is available in OCC’s Parking Lot 3 next to the H. Hovnanian Sciences Building (#102). In case of rain, the party will be rescheduled to Tuesday, April 2.
