Who is my Advisor?

Full-Time Students

(registered for 12 or more credits)

Faculty Advising

Full-time students are advised primarily by OCC faculty. Faculty advisors assist students with:

  • Degree program advice and guidance
  • Interpreting their degree audit (Student Planning "My Progress" screen)
  • Course selection advising

Locating Your Faculty Academic Advisor

  • Full-time students must log into their Ocean Connect account to find their assigned advisor.
  • Click on WebAdvisor, then click the blue “Students” tab.  Under Academic Profile, click “My Profile”. It will list a faculty member or campus office as your advisor.
  • Contact your assigned advisor to set  up an advising appointment.

Meeting With Your Faculty Advisor

  • Students should meet with their faculty advisor each semester starting two weeks prior to registration, through the end of the semester.
  • Review your degree audit (My Progress screen) on Student Planning, and create a course plan, prior to meeting with your advisor.

Professional Advising

Full-time students can also meet with a professional academic advisor in the Advising Office:

  • After meeting with the faculty advisor, if additional help is needed.
  • Each semester until two weeks prior to registration and then after classes end.
  • To discuss changes in degree program, transfer, and probation status.  Students who are graduating in the next semester can come to the Advising Office and request a graduation audit.

Part-Time Students

(registered for less than 12 credits)

Professional Advising

Part-time students are advised by professional advisors. Part-time students should meet with a professional academic advisor in the Advising Office to discuss:

  • Degree program advice and guidance
  • Discussing the degree audit
  • Course selection
  • Changes in degree program, dropping and adding courses, transfer, graduation, and probation status
  • Any other issues that might arise

E-learning Students

Distance learners can find information on admission and programs at http://online.ocean.edu/.

All  e-learning students are advised by an e-learning advisor. Students should email elearningadv@ocean.edu if they would like to make an advising appointment.
